News Report-Prayers Needed for Former Foster Child Rape Victim

December 16, 2009

The other day I received an email that astonished me.  A foster care graduate that I feel a big sister type bond with explained the details of a horrific ordeal she had just faced.  She was attacked and raped while walking home from school.  Now while I was already very impressed by this amazing young woman’s determination to overcome the adversities of growing up in the foster care system, I am now in awe.  Over the course of several days and email updates, one amazing theme is jumping off the pages.  FORGIVENESS AND FAITH.  During the brutal attack, she said she concentrated on speaking with god, turning everything over to Him.  Afterward, she prayed for the rapist, asking God to have mercy on his soul.

My mind has remained focussed on the act of forgiveness and the great strength demonstrated by people who have this capacity to truly “forgive” someone who has caused them harm and/or pain.  This woman is truly remarkable!

Obviously, I am going to keep her identity private but my hope is that many of you will offer words of encouragement for her to read here.  Let’s use this platform to show her support and love so she knows she is not alone and to show that she has an entire community of great people thinking of her and praying for her.  Please post well wishes, words of encouragement and prayers here for her to read.

I was sadden by the news of what this young lady was faced with, while walking home from school and I will be praying for her. But I was also amazed at her courage and how strong she is, to have forgiveness in heart after such an awful tragedy. If I could say something to her it would be this: You are a strong young lady and I know things are grim……..but the fact that through it all you have continued to keep your faith and the love of God and forgiveness in your heart speaks volumes! Keep your faith and don’t let nothing or no one stop you from reaching your level of success! God Bless!

Words can not express the depth of sadness that I feel at hearing this news. I can say that I know of the horror that you speak of. I want you to know, if you read this, that you are not alone nor have you ever been. It speaks to your strength as a woman, and as a human being, that you prayed for the soul of your attacker.

I join my prayers with yours and ask that you continue to be strong during this time. It may sound like a lame cliche, but if God brings you to it, he will bring you through it. To everything there is a reason and never doubt that you have one.

If you ever need me, I’m only ever a heartbeat away. You are loved. You are thought of. You are the strength from which I build a solid foundation and for that I thank you.

    Love Jess

Your courage and strength are amazing. I can’t even begin to imagine what you are going through. You must be an incredible young lady to be able to pray for this monster. You will be in my prayers. Sending hugs.

    To Jen’s friend:
I can’t begin to tell you how thankful I am that you can reach out to others at such a time and talk to them. It takes immense courage to be open about what you experienced and how you feel, and you have taken that step. Keep going.
I guess the other thing I want you to know is that you are precious. I’m a foster mum, and I wish there was some way to tell kids that they are wonderful, just as they are. The minute you hit the world you are wonderful creatures.
You sound like a very special person. Don’t give up on that.

    Faith. Character. Strength. Courage.

All of it is within this one story. My prayers are with you.

I ask all of you who are reading this to please pray without ceasing. There is not good news in finding this attacker. I fear he will either come back or attack another person. Please pray without ceasing. God knows where this person is and capable of making sure he caught. Nothing is hidden from the eyes of Jesus Christ. Please pray, please pray. This is my desperate plea to all who are reading this horrifying story. Please pray without ceasing. I just can’t stress that enough. THANK YOU ALL!

This is an amazing witness to the strength of foster children. I have met several other women who have been through this and I am astounded at their strength of character. I am so proud of them and of myself for not letting such severe adversity bring us down, or at least keep us down. It seems like God has special angels watching over his unreal children. I say unreal because that is what my brother was called in his foster home when the “real” children reported his so called transgressions (one of which was looking at the TV in passing) to the foster parents.
